Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I start fostering for GCGA?
Yay! So you've decided to become a foster family. :) Please head on over to the Apply page of this site to fill out a Foster Application. As soon as we've had a chance to review it and check your references, we'll get in touch to discuss your first foster!
  • How else can I help?
Even if you can't currently foster a dog, we're always looking for volunteers! We can often use help with events and with transportation of both dogs and supplies. If you'd like to pitch in, please email us at gcgagulfcoast@gmail.com.
  • Where can I donate?
We have regular Meet and Greets and other fundraising events throughout the year. You can also donate directly to use using Zelle (gcgagulfcoast@gmail.com) or Paypal. Thanks for thinking of us!
  • Where do your Greyhounds come from?
Most of our Greyhounds are currently coming to us from the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust (Ireland) and Greyhounds As Pets (Australia). We also do get American Greyhounds from time to time. No matter what country they come from, they are the same fabulous hounds that we know and love!
  • What other dogs do you adopt out?
We also partner with some other organizations around the country (and the world!) to find loving homes for Galgos, Podencos, Lurchers and other sighthound mixes. Many of these dogs have the same sweet demeanor as the Greyhounds we know and love, but with varying energy levels. We invite you to learn more about these breeds and decide if one might be right for you! Please reach out with any additional questions.
  • Do you adopt out of state?
YES! Thanks to the generous donations we have been able to obtain a van. Its primary use is to allow us to go anywhere to pick up retired Greyhounds and other sighthound related breeds ready to find their forever homes. Since GCGA does adopt out of state, we can also assist as needed to bring these fabulous dogs to their forever home. We strongly encourage adopters to come (with their other canine kids) to meet their new family member in person. We want you to be confident in your decision to adopt! However, we may be able to assist with transportation on a case-by-case basis, based on the availability of the vehicle & volunteer drivers, and with your help covering associated transport costs.
